mdlbear: the positively imaginary half of a cubic mandelbrot set (Default)

Moderately productive, though not as much as I needed to be. Story of my life, I guess.

Plans have firmed up: I am retiring next year; we are putting the house on the market in Spring, and moving to New England. We will probably buy a house there, unless things look so bad that we think we'll have to leave the country within the next year. I hate this. At least I can't blame myself for Trump and his gang. I can and do blame myself for the financial trainwreck. I was in denial for a loooooong time. We all were. I still am, to some extent.

Colleen, Giselle, and Naomi have done a lot of decluttering in the sewing corner, cubhouse, downstairs, and some of the books. It's a start. I've started, too, clearing off the clutter from the Great Room hearth, starting to sort through my boxes. I'm still attached to a lot of things; I need to be more ruthless. There are boxes and boxes of little things I never used, kept because there might be a use for them someday. Or that turned out to require more effort than I wanted to spend, and hung around until they were totally obsolete. (A lot of little Linux boxen in that category.) We still haven't started on the garage. For the second time, or is it the third?

Did I mention that I hate this? I hate this.

I've been having a little fun with the guitar I brought in to work last week. That, at least, has been ok. And my family is awesome. And we have cats.

You are doing a good job.

Whether or not the situation goes towards okay, you are maximizing the okayness that can be gotten out of the situation for you and your family. You are making smart plans and doing set-up for implementing them well ahead of time.

I think it is likely that you are stressed. Even were it not for: all the stressful reasons for, and aggravating logistical components of, packing for a move; it would still be the case that: many people find going through clutter to be stressful in its own right. This is miserable, and you are allowed to be unhappy about it. If you feel cold, you can treat it as cold, too, and soothe yourself that way. Do you have a warm, soft blanket or favorite garment? Do you have hot beverages on hand? Please use them from time to time. And keep purring with your cats.

I am sending you folks warm fuzzy thoughts. Would you like random cat pictures from my phone, too? I got a phone charger, and I'm going to be sitting in an airport tomorrow, I might as well have an excuse for looking through all the pictures to find the ones of neighborhood cats.

Hang in there, 'bear. {manhug}

I've done a *lot* of decluttering, on and off, over the last few years since I stopped being fully employed. Guess it helps to have the time to stop, look around, and think. And yes, being ruthless is a must! Has been tough going, because I'm such a pack-rat, even more so when it comes to virtual stuff. Getting better at it, and not so stressed.

Engine check light

A shame you're up in Washington state or I'd loan you my OBD-II scanner so you could find out what is causing the engine check light to go on. One of those gadgets that isn't horribly pricey, but has been worth every penny because of peace of mind granted by knowing what is wrong.

Depending on what the Benadryl spray is for, it does exist. It's sold as an anti-itch medication. If you're looking for something like a nasal spray, you're right, diphenhydramine doesn't appear to exist as a nasal spray.

Sorry to hear about the financial stresses and your giving up the Left Coast. Though certainly I won't mind not having to rely on business trips and 6-hour flights to have a chance to see y'all..

We need to work on decluttering ourselves, if for no other reason than to create space for all the stuff accumulated by and for little boys.
