Love at first sight? I really have to believe in that, even though I've never done it myself, because my wife tells me she fell in love with me at first sight.

Greed. It's not the only problem the world needs solving, but it's at the root of a lot of them. "The root of all evil", or something like that.

I always figured on cremation and scattering, but it's really up to the family. If they'd rather mix the ashes with clay and make souvenir ashtrays, or save a couple of fingers to make soup, it's not like I'd be in a position to care. Let alone object.

If I could become a woman for a day? Well, having sex is the obvious thing, since I've always wondered what it was like. But that's just the evening. I'd spend most of the day singing and recording, so that I'd have the rare opportunity to sing duets with myself. If I could pick the day and had enough advance notice, I'd do a concert at a convention. (And everyone in the audience would be wondering "who the hell is that, and why is she singing so many of Steve's songs?")

Hmm. Used to folk-dance. I'd have to go for mastering -- really mastering -- the waltz. Or maybe the tango, which I don't know at all. I can handle the polka, thanks.

As for gymnastics, well, that always scared the heck out of me. I'd settle for being able to do simple vaults well enough to know why [livejournal.com profile] pocketnaomi loved it, rather than being scared out of my wits by it.

Probably "A locked car with an open window is not a locked car." Applies to computer security, too.

One of his favorite aphorisms was "There are no rules of architecture for castles in the air", slightly misquoted from G. K. Chesterton.

I miss him a lot.

Mom told me once that I had a teddy bear, but I don't remember it and have no idea what became of it. The hairbrush in the shape of a hedgehog, which I got somewhere between the ages of 6 and 10, is probably still somewhere in Mom's apartment. I still have the rope lion that I got at the same time, and the plastic soprano recorder that dates back to third grade or so.

My current favorite stuffie, which I've had for a year or so, is a rhinoceros named Cyrano. He's not only particularly cuddlesome, he's also exactly the right size to travel in my suitcase and serve as a CPAP pillow.

I've been out of touch with all of the women I knew in high school and college, so they'd have to have done some research to find me, and it's unlikely that they'd have wanted to, but stranger things have happened.

If I had to narrow the seafood down to a species, I'd pick tuna. Mostly as sashimi.

No.

ETA: Not in general, anyway. If they deliberately set out to make criminals of their kids, or encourage their illegal acts, they should be considered accessories or worse. I.e., if somebody tells their kid to go kill X because the kid is a minor and will get off lightly, that's clearly criminal in itself. But bad parenting decisions in general shouldn't be criminalized.

Parents who raise their kids in a religion that leads them to perform criminal acts, such as abusing women or murdering abortion providers, probably should be held responsible, but that won't happen.

I've always found the sequence x[n]=n-1947 to be an excellent predictor of my age in any given future year. Numerical coincidences (like 10/10/10 for today's date, and Pi Day = 3/14) are always entertaining but have no other significance.

Try to cram in as much time with my family and friends as possible. Music and conversation, mostly. Fly small groups of people in from wherever they live, or go to them (though that might be less efficient). Eat out every day with a group of 3-5 other people. Eat a lot of stuff that I love but that's bad for me.

An hour or two of music, in small circles. Long conversations, one-on-one or two to all hours of the night. Tell some people how much I love them, and how much I wish we'd spent more time together.

There's a lot of stuff in the "I really ought to get around to..." category that really isn't nearly as important as other people, when it comes down to the wire.

I do, but... Some people really have no business being parents. Overpopulation is a problem in many parts of the world. But once you start regulating the ability of people to form households and have children, you're well on your way down a slippery slope that leads to other forms of oppression and control.

So, yeah -- the right to reproduce is pretty fundamental. But if there were a way to encourage people to be responsible about exercising it, that would be good.

Heh. Actually, I'm working on two different albums at the moment: a solo album called Amethyst Rose, and one with my band, Tempered Glass, tentatively called Crazed.

Amethyst Rose has actually gotten to the point of recording some scratch tracks and coming up with a tentative track list. All but one or two will be my songs, mostly relating to my family (the other way of expressing the theme is "songs people have told me they'll kill me if I don't record", which explains the presence of Ship of Stone on the track list. The cover will be a picture of a Royal Amethyst rose in the San Jose Municipal Rose Garden; the disk will also be a rose, seen close up.

Crazed is, so far, just at the planning stage -- it will be about 2/3 songs by one or more of the band members (me, Naomi Rivkis, and Callie Hills), and about 1/3 covers of filk and folk songs we love.

Since I'm 5 years older than my wife (whom I met more than 40 years ago when she was 17), I'm hardly in a position to complain. Several of my dearest friends are decades younger than me, and if one of those friendships were to take a romantic turn I wouldn't hesitate for a heartbeat.

Depends on whether I could keep Bill Gates's income for that month.

If not, it becomes a much harder question. Possibly G. K. Chesterton's Father Brown, or maybe Charles Babbage. In both cases, it would be to learn how their mind works. Or Casanova; same reason. Maybe some of their particular genius would stick with me.
