Version control systems

People interested in version-control systems or large-scale content-addressible storage should take a look at git, Linus Torvalds' start at a replacement for Bitkeeper. It's not really a VCS, more of a toolkit that you can use as the basis for a VCS. But it's fast, self-checking, and lightweight.

[git: the code] [discussion in LWN] [update in LWN] -- note that the LWN content is subscribers-only until next Thursday.

There are also a set of tables and an article comparing version control systems.
