My trip to the puzzle swap at the library was very quick. I wanted to walk because I was only carrying four puzzles and it's under 20 minutes, but there was rain in the forecast so I drove, and it was just as well because it was raining quite heavily by the time I left. Anyway, there was a huge number of puzzles laid out according to number of pieces on large tables around the edges of the community room at the library, and only a small number of people, maybe ten or twelve at most, browsing. There were far more 1000 piece puzzles than any other number, and although I donated three 500 piece puzzles, I brought home only 1000 piece puzzles because you didn't have to only choose puzzles of the same number of pieces as you donated. (300+, 500+, and 2000+ were the other categories.) I was sorry I could only choose four, but it was strictly on the basis of bring one, take one. Next time I'll have more, because I still had three left here at home that I haven't done yet. I really hope this will be a regular event.

I had a short "attack" of ear pain this morning which started soon after I got up. It was quite mild and bearable for two or three hours until I put in my earbuds to do a Duolingo lesson, and the earbuds instantly made it worse. (Lesson learnt.) I lay down with the painful ear positioned as comfortably as possible on a pillow, and the pain was gone within about half an hour.

I got burned out on all my appointments, and then the weather improved, so I have been working in the yard and making some minor headway.

Like, getting the blackberries and the trash trees dug out of my flower beds, tubs and anywhere else they have magically appeared.

Slowly, mind you, but still I am making inroads.

Health is slowly improving a bit, my heart has actually healed from the medication induced congestive failure two years ago, its now 2 sizes smaller! My grinch reversal I say. The left floppy ventricle has also tightened up, yeah, its still a slacker, but not as bad. Waiting on new psoraisis medication, they denied the move to Skyrizi and now I am supposed to get Stelara. who knows. Getting new oropedic shoes, and they are slip ons, plus they have a variety of colors and styles, I getting a coral pair (its a lavender) and brown ones with cheetah print.

Still struggling with deep feelings of loss, I still processing my friend T's death last month, and one of my former work friends lost her husband of 40 years last week.

Getting a lot of spam calls on my cell phone, its really obvious when the phone says the call is from Legacy Health and the chipper accented voice tells me they are AT&T. I hang up and block.

Today, meeting eldest niece to see the Sheep Detectives movie, the books were a delight. So, great anticipation... speaking of which, they had the broadway cast of rocky horror do Sweet Transvestite on Jimmy Fallon the other night, and Luke Evans was Dr Frank n Furter.... omg... one of the best I have seen (no one can outdo Tim Curry! so if you want, look up the clip on utube. or wherever they have it. loved the patterned tights too.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop in the Gaspé Peninsula/Mi'kma'ki

Well, missing out on the news that a TV-formatted follow-up to two of my favourite movies has been produced is annoying...

Apparently the first two episodes went "live" on Crave on May 7th?

Why Was Your Comment Deleted?

Posted by Wack'd

People have been asking for a post where I lay out what, exactly, might get a comment deleted. Having done two of these already and being met with hostility makes me a little wary, but I agree having this stuff buried in a comments section of a comic from days ago is bad practice, so here we go.

If you’re just pointing out a character did something wrong, that’s gonna get deleted. Note the word “just” there–it’s okay to bring up someone’s wrongdoing if there’s a point besides the wrongdoing. Say, some analysis of their character or arc or something.

In general if your comment is just “this is a thing that happened, and that’s bad”, it is getting deleted. We’re reading the same comic you are and know what happened in it.

If you’re “pointing out” that a character is an abuser/hypocrite/manipulator/narcissist/insert negative trait here, that’s gonna get deleted. This isn’t analysis, it’s just insults.

If you’re “pointing out” that a character, were they a reasonable person like you, would hate another character for their misdeeds or want nothing to do with them, it is getting deleted.

If you’re “pointing out” that one character in a conflict is obviously and unambiguously correct, or that another character in a conflict is obviously and unambiguously wrong, that comment is getting deleted. (Apply this one in good faith–if your reaction to this is to troll by defending characters acting on obvious hatred and bigotry, like Mary or an evil dad or whatever, that is also getting deleted!)

If your comment can be boiled down to “why isn’t character a doing action x instead of action y?”, it’s gonna get deleted.

A friend of mine has suggested a rule along the lines of “if you write a comment as a personal letter or DM to a fictional character, it is getting deleted.” I’m not gonna enforce this one but if you find yourself doing this you might wanna double-check it’s not comorbid with the other rules.

If your comment can be boiled down to “ugh, more of this”–more of this character, more of this arc, whatever–it’s gonna get deleted.

And, perhaps most importantly–if your comment is a negative statement about David Willis, another commenter, another group of commenters, a minority or minoritized group, or myself, it is going to get deleted.

I do not have the time to individually address each individual deletion. To keep the comments from becoming about the comments, any comments asking for clarification or seeking to debate these rules will also be deleted. I understand the guesswork involved in figuring out why a comment was deleted is stressful for some commenters. I’m sorry that I have no remedy for that at this time.

I reserve the right to modify these rules at any time and for any reason. If and when that happens, a comment will be made under that day’s comic.

post-op gripes

I would like to state for the record that washing your hair when you have no sensation (back? yet?) in the top of your scalp is bizarre and difficult. And the prescription-strength dandruff shampoo that I'm using is particularly nasty if it gets in the eyes or mouth. And really, I'm supposed to leave it on for three minutes?

Yes, I know, this kind of surgery is mostly a rich bitch privilege and I should be grateful to even have this kind of problem. But that's hard to remember when your eyes are stinging.

I still don't quite have a solution for sleeping in the recommended position, i.e. with my back at a 45° angle to the horizontal. My camping recliner is almost there, but I think I need a sleeping bag with it. At the rate I'm going it'll be almost too late. My back's sensitivity is surely a sign of age.

Other things I've done that I shouldn't have according to a second reading of the post-op instructions: walk too long at once, carry too much weight (groceries), get busy with Clara*, and pull weeds.

I shall be buying foods today that I can eat when I go off liquids on Tuesday. Oh yes, I shall.

Birdfeeding

Today is mostly sunny and mild. It rained most of yesterday.

I fed the birds. I've seen a large mixed flock of sparrows and house finches, a mourning dove, and a fox squirrel.

I put out water for the birds.

Tigers by Eliza Griswold

What are we now but voices
who promise each other
a life neither one can deliver
not for lack of wanting
but wanting can’t make it so.
We hang from a vine
at the cliff’s edge.
There are tigers above
and below. Let us love
one another and let go.

Honestly not sure if it would be any less annoying to just handsew this bit.

So I finished cutting out and drawing lines on the backing today, and then I started sewing!

I tacked the first couple of pockets, and then tried sewing them with the machine. Holy shit what a disaster. PEBKAC disaster, but still, disaster. That took A While, with Mama helping me debug shit! Anyway, once we had the oops-I-threaded-the-machine-wrong problem the main problem is the treadle thing is on a hair trigger and I am NOT good at making it go slowly. I put my foot down slooooooly and then suddenly NYOOM!!!

Mama says you can not do that and just go slowly, but I am a scepticism. :|

Anyway, turns out that if you don't have the pocket tacked SUPER well it doesn't go through from one line to the other properly (assuming you can keep it on the line which I am. Bad at.), so I had to unpick both the sewing attempt AND the tacking from the second pocket, and have resewn it much closer together. And honestly, not sure it wouldn't be about the same amount of effort to just... hand sew it. Need to do something like a backstich instead of a running stitch, but the stitches themselves would need to be about the same size, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'll ask Mama about it tomorrow, see what she thinks, I guess!

Tried Saying a Command by MOEGI YUKUE

"Masa, Sit." Masa, the owner of a boutique clothing store, is best friends with the heartthrob fashion model, Oto. Together, they turn heads wherever they go. Both are also high-level Doms. However, Oto struggles with the strength of his commands, making him too intense for any sub partners he's had so far. Masa, on the other hand, has three regular partners. Seeking advice, Oto invites Masa out for dinner, where he playfully gives Masa a command, and then...?!

My Rate: 8 (mangaplaza.com/title/0303010289/)

If you’re looking for a BL that prioritizes "cozy domesticity" over high-stakes drama, Moegi Yukue’s Tried Saying a Command is a standout. It’s a sweet, low-stress exploration of a long-term relationship finding a new rhythm through a bit of harmless, experimental play. The story follows Masa and Oto, a couple of friends who have known each other for years. They are both Dominant Doms, but by chance they discover Masa is a switch and can react to Oto's commando. They decide to experiment with "commands"—small, playful prompts to spice up their interactions and see how the other reacts. What makes this manga work is the groundedness of the leads: Masa: Often the more "composed" one, his reactions to Oto’s commands (and his own attempts to lead) reveal a vulnerability that is incredibly endearing. Oto: He brings a certain warmth and spontaneity to the dynamic. His relationship with Masa feels lived-in; they aren't just lovers, they are best friends who truly know each other. Unlike many BL titles that rely on misunderstandings or "non-con" tropes for tension, this series is built on consent and curiosity. The "commands" are a vehicle for them to express desires they might have been too shy to bring up otherwise. The art is soft, clean, and expressive. Yukue excels at drawing "gentle" men—characters who feel masculine but are capable of immense tenderness. The facial expressions during the more embarrassing "command" moments are gold. It’s rare to find a story that focuses on the maintenance of love rather than the initial chase. Seeing Masa and Oto navigate their domestic life together provides a sense of warmth that feels like a "warm hug" in manga form. A masterclass in soft, domestic BL, Tried Saying a Command isn't going to give you heart-wrenching angst or dark psychological turns. Instead, it offers a refreshing look at how a stable couple continues to grow. It’s charming, slightly spicy in a tasteful way, and deeply romantic. Best for fans of: Established relationship tropes. Soft, "fluff" heavy stories. Healthy communication and consent. Moegi Yukue’s other works (like The High Schooler and the Salaryman).
