YAMM

Yet Another Music Meme.

Here are my six favorite songs at the moment:
  1. Don Simpson -- Ship of Stone
  2. Stan Rogers -- The Mary Ellen Carter
  3. Bob Dylan -- Desolation Row (close runner-up: "Lilly, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts")
  4. Bob Kanefsky -- Eternal Flame (close runner-up: "Dear Departed")
  5. Cat Faber -- Wings
  6. Eric Bogle -- The Band Played "Waltzing Matilda" (many others here, too, but especially "Nobody's Moggy")
(From [livejournal.com profile] sbisson, who deleted the chain-letter part. If you like it, do it.)

Four of these are songs that I sing myself; I'm working on "Eternal Flame" and need to learn "Wings".

Lyrics and sheet music for Wings are online... let me know if you need or want help working out a lead sheet.

Also, officially, we generally have NO PROBLEM with people covering EC tunes, as long as original authorship is properly credited. You may already know this, but I thought it might be worth stating clearly, here. :)

You're welcome for the links.

I agree, how one came by the song does make a good intro.

I always try to credit a song's author, too, and sometimes have learned that the attribution I had was wrong, but I'd rather say something and have it corrected, than propagate a mistaken impression that a song is mine. I'm willing to claim what I have written, but think authors should get credit for their work, whenever possible!

Sensible suggestions, but not at all easy for me to implement, given the technology I have. In addition, I don't think I've ever seen a PDF file that was as compact as the GIF files which are the central images of the sheet music pages. Also, since the site was created using dialup, and is still maintained that way, we skewed our formatting toward minimizing file size. Perhaps that wasn't the best choice, but if people print out the entire page rather than just saving the sheet music image (which, from the copies I've seen, most do), then the proper crediting does stay with the tune.

I was not the one who designed or constructed this website originally. That credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] catsittingstill. I've just inherited it in its current state. Implementing your suggestions, while a sensible goal, is not one I'm likely to undertake anytime soon, given the hours of work it would involve.
