...is skipping. They only seem to last a year or two; probably has
something to do with dust. I'll go out and get a cleaning kit, but I
don't expect it to help a whole lot.
Steve, Have you checked the DVD disk??? I have noticed that when my DVD skips.. it is the bloody disc not machine. I clean the disc then the DVD won't skip. My house is dustier than yours...
That's often true, but in this case it seems to be skipping on all disks, and cleaning the disks doesn't help. (Of course, we don't take very good care of our disks; it could be that they're badly scratched.)
I'm still working on the "perfect" setup for ours; I've got a Mini-ITX box in place of a traditional CD/DVD player. I still need to hook up front-panel buttons and an LCD...
I've been thinking about this; unfortunately I'm using my Mini-ITX box for something else. I should be able to use my younger daughter's 700MHz Duron box after she gets upgraded for Christmas. But that will still take a fair amount of work; I'll probably have to just throw money at the problem.

Fred just revived ours
Of course Mindy may have destroyed our satellite box with a spray of cleaning fluid.

I'll pick up a new one shortly, I guess.
