Further Confusion
2004-01-24 01:07 pmI took yesterday off work to go to Further Confusion -- it's not my usual sort of con, but with concerts by Dr. Jane Robinson and Cynthia McQuillan in the afternoon, and music GOH Heather Alexander in the evening, it was hard to say no. Especially since my kids insisted.
(Note that
chaoswolf is running gofers (called "ferrets" at this con), and
flower_cat is holding down both the info desk and the evening filking.)
Darned if I know why they started the con Thursday evening and have stuff scheduled for Monday morning when it isn't a holiday weekend. Attendence at the afternoon concert was very light. I was the only performer at the filk circle; we closed it down a little after midnight.
I find that I'm not particularly interested in furry conventions. Yes, the costumes are pretty spectacular, but I think I'm going to stay home most of today. I have a 50-minute concert coming up at the con tomorrow afternoon; I need to practice and finalize my setlist. I don't have very many songs about animals, but I'll haul out everything that vaguely mentions mythological creatures, plus s couple from other people, notably "Little Fuzzy Animals" (Frank Hayes), and "Waltzing with Bears" (from The Cat in the Hat Songbook).
The hotel coffeeshop, usually overpriced but decent, was ghastly. The so-called "potstickers" I had for lunch had been deep-fried, and the salmon and sauteed vegetables at dinner were salty and had an off-taste that I couldn't identify. Contaminated griddle or bad oil, is my guess. The coffee was poor, but no worse than their usual.
