  = Mary Travers dies
  * finish moving stuff out of sewing room
  * spray the sewing room
  * set up bed in sewing room; track down a sheet.
  * write YD a deposit check; $100

I got a very solid night's sleep, thanks to Bayer PM (aspirin and benedryl). Should probably not use that stuff too often.

I walked down to Safeway and back the long way; a decent walk, but I'm noticably out of shape after a weekend on my arse.

I narrowly averted a scheduling disaster between work and life, by moving a teleconference from 5pm to 6. (Couldn't move it earlier -- the other end's in Japan.) That will let me pick up [livejournal.com profile] pocketnaomi at the airport this afternoon and still finish the testing I need to do.

The downstairs guest room is ready, after several evenings of schlepping. The upstairs guest room has guests in it -- they'll be going home tomorrow morning.

Mary Travers is dead.

While the death of Mary Travers is quite noteworthy, I'm not sure you really want to list "Mary Travers is dead" with the other things that were "Done Yesterday" by you. Perhaps "I heard that...." or "I read that..." would be better.

I will be playing several PP&M albums over the next few days in memory.

My 84 year old father has been a doctor of Osteopathy since 1954. He swears by Benadryl as the safest, most effective, side-effect free and non-habit-forming sleep aid in the history of medicine and has been telling his patients to take it as needed for that purpose for decades. Patrick and I use it when we need it with no fear of a side-effect other than maybe sleeping through the alarm clock if we're too sleep deprived. I take it only when I can sleep for at least 7 hours after taking it.

If you're interested, Doctor George's list of five OTC medications he would never travel without are:

1. Benadryl, for sleep, allergic reactions, skin irritations and bug bites gone bad.

2. ASA in 325 and 81mg dosages for pain, fever, prevention of deep vein thrombosis, stroke & heart attack.

3. Motrin or Tylenol for muscle or soft tissue pain or injury. Motrin is especially good for PMS or for muscular cramps of all kinds. Tylenol is ideal if ASA upsets your stomach.

4. Tums,for women who need their daily calcium and to offset travel-related indigestion.

5. Pepcid for any gastric upsets not covered by Tums.

Dad also never travels without triple antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone cream, Peptobismol, his prescriptions and his diabetic glucose monitoring unit because he's diabetic.

Doctor George is a tough old bird and one of the wisest and most experienced physicians on the face of the planet. Daddy doesn't always know best, but in this case I think his advice is pure gold, and I pack my suitcase accordingly. I always regret it when I leave something off his list at home. Kris Bohnhoff could have used my triple antibiotic ointment this past week if I hadn't left it on my nightstand. Sigh.
