A good day. Productive at work, which always feels good. And a little shopping at Guitar Showcase -- found a very small folding guitar stand that fits Plink, and an octave pedal at a very reasonable price.

No walk, though, and my pedometer has gone missing. Grumph.

Some good links under the cut. The most interesting is probably this NY Times article on digital archiving. There are also some interesting points in Mobile gadgets: Three's a crowd, which says that most people will only need two mobile gadgets: one in the pocket (phone) and one in the bag (laptop). The author lumps netbooks and tablets in with laptops, which I think makes sense. But he also puts eBook readers in with laptops, which I think is probably wrong. A phone is too small for reading on, and a laptop with a usable screen and keyboard is too big and bulky. So,... three gadgets.

Reading on my phone bothers me a lot less than either carting around another expensive gizmo too big to fit in my pocket or having to carry a purse so I can tote a book. Mind, the face of the phone is nearly all screen & the text size can be raised to an acceptable level. YMMV, of course.

*nods* E-readers like the Kindle really only make sense if you carry a purse. I find them a lot more comfortable to read on for long periods than a phone (I have a Droid) - you can set the thing down on the table or your lap and still read it.

I like reading on my phone (iPhone), but if I didn't, I'd use a laptop or tablet. I wouldn't want to use an eBook. Most of them are big enough to be a complete pain to tote around and waste a lot of space in a purse. If I need a separate bag for it, I might as well have a utility item (laptop) and not an eReader.

(And, to be fair, when I saw the Kindle I really disliked it in terms of experience - so I've no desire to own/use one even if it were easy to carry around - but it's the only eBook thing I've ever seen up close.)

Hmm. I've seen most of the eBook readers; the original Kindle was awful, but the Kindle 2 fixed most of its problems. I also have a netbook, which is enough bigger that it's hard to find a shoulder bag that will hold it. The Kindle's battery life is more like a phone's than a laptop's -- a couple of days of normal use.

I see your point, though.
