(not) Forgetful Friday

I didn't exactly forget Thankful Thursday this week; I figured it might be sensible to wait and see what else I had to be thankful for. So, here we go:

• A good, long run at a good company.
• A final paycheck with over two weeks of vacation pay in it.
• Six months of severance pay, with full benefits.
• Moving to where there's no state income tax.
• Lots of fond goodbyes, and a card covered with good wishes.
• Early retirement, even if it's only hopefully for a few months.
• Renters for the house, at a rate that will cover the mortgage.
• Cope, including cope in a bottle.
• Little boxes.

Six months of severance? Wow, that's some sweet cushion to live on.

I'm still bitter about getting laid off 9 years ago and getting two weeks.

I'd be bitter about that, too!

I'd been there 19 years, though, and Ricoh actually gives a damn. And, of course, there's the fact that one of the conditions on the severance pay is that I won't sue them for age discrimination. One of the other people laid off was two days short of 20 years of service.
