Regarding her combination of weakness and water retention, it could also be related to the AFIB and any medications that may have been prescribed for reducing a fast heart rate. My dad had AFIB, and we sometimes went in circles with the cardiologist - keeping blood pressure and heart rate at good levels required watching, it's easy to go too low. Maybe something to ask her doctors about.
