Today I am grateful for...

• My family, as always, including chosen family both human and feline. (The cats, of course, will doubtless point out that they chose us.)
• GNU Make's excellent collection of functions, including $(shell...) for when they aren't enough.
• More people leaving LJ for DW (even though many of those defections are probably caused by Russia's war on Ukraine, demonstrating that many silver linings have clouds around them).
• The occasional night with a decent amount of sleep.
• Masks, vaccines, and hopefully soon effective antivirals.

I've also been singing "Let There Be Peace On Earth" and "All We Are Saying is Give Peace A CHance". The louder I sing, the better it works. And I can sing pretty loud!

When I sang alto in the high school chorus, I was one of the few who could read music, and I also had a fairly powerful voice. I was usually switched into whichever section was weakest. I found myself singing bass on the Hallelujah Chorus once.

And aren't those music school kids amazing?!

Well sure, but we don't have to inquire too deeply about the formative details of found family. :-)

There is already an effective antiviral treatment for COVID. I keep hearing public service announcements on the radio: 'If you have symptoms, get tested immediately, so you can start getting treatment as soon as possible - the sooner you start, the more effective the treatment is." I asked my grown son, who works in a daycare home for people with both mental health problems and cognitive impairments, and also physical ailments as well. He mentioned an antiviral I'd heard of before (as an AIDS treatment). Also he told me that the research that led to the development of that drug, and also research that led to the COVID vaccine, also led to the development of an AIDS vaccine, and also an EBOLA vaccine, which is saving many lives in Africa. (And, furthermore, Dolly Parton paid for some of that research from her personal fortune, and then got vaccinated on TV.)
