The pressure is off of VoIP
2004-12-06 08:21 pmJust got a phone call from SBC offering to switch my long distance service to $20/month for unlimited service. I took it. So that takes the pressure off the VoIP project. (Just as I was "nearing success", too, though there's no telling how long it would have taken to actually finish -- I'm well-known as a procrastinator.)
What I will do, though, is use Asterisk for voice mail, and for routing to VoIP for international calls and when the landline is busy. That, in turn, will eventually let me drop the second line and make modem calls to my ISP on the landline.
This development also means that I can put off testing to make sure that the FXS port has a hefty enough driver to ring all the inside phones, and that none of them are connected to the demarc by paths that don't go through the wiring closet (I have my suspicions).
