It's been a busy week, with a good band rehearsal last Sunday and some good solo practice sessions over the course of the week. We decided that merely micing the whole group in stereo wouldn't work, so I also bought a mixer (with a USB interface). My choice was partly on features, and partly on delivery date -- the version without effects is somewhat cheaper, but wouldn't have arrived in time for today's rehearsal.

At my dentist appointment Tuesday I was delighted to see that they had acquired a hand-held X-ray generator. I.e. a literal ray-gun. With a lead-glass shield around the muzzle -- it definitely looks the part. I hadn't realized that they made X-ray tubes that small these days.

Lots of good links, including a very nice emacs tutorial and successful results from the DART asteroid-impact mission.

I finally got paid by CEX for my old iPad Mini last week, and they regraded it from C to B quality and offered me more money for it, which was good. :) I sold an old Logitech wireless keyboard at the weekend on eBay, that'll be collected today by Royal Mail for delivery to buyer. Meanwhile, I have three Oxfam bags ready to be filled with old clothes that can be reused. And I've been getting out and walking most days, which is helping me clear my head as well as exercise my body.

Had a stressful Friday, though. Ever since I decided to turn on Firevault encryption on my iMac's system disk, I've occasionally been confronted by a GRUB menu screen on restart, probably a hangover from when I was testing out Linux distros using an external SSD. I decided to turn off Firevault and left the Mac to do that, but awoke Friday morning to find it stuck in mid-boot. D: After rebooting into Recovery Mode, Disk Utility confirmed what I suspected, corruption on the system disk. I had to restort to a full wipe and reinstall of macOS, then restored my date from Time Machine backup using the Migration Assistant. Thankfully, nothing lost, just a few security checks to redo and some licences reapplied.

I'm going to make more effort to use Dreamwidth for blogging, primarily about my Second Life experiences but some Real Life will bleed in I'm sure.
