As so often happens, I feel that I wasted almost the entirety of last week. A lot of it was spent following the ongoing disaster movie at The Hindenbird. This would probably be a good place to point at the twitter_refugees community here on DW, and maybe my Welcome, tumblr refugees post. You'll find a lot of information about Mastodon in the links -- that seems to be the place most twitter refugees are jumping to, although there's a lot to be said for DW as well.

I haven't joined a Mastodon instance yet, but it's in the queue. So are a lot of things, many arguably more important. Typical.

DW and Mastodon needn't be either/or but both/and. They're both good for different things. I much prefer a DW post to a 20-tweet thread or the Mastodon equivalent, especially when breaking it into chunks fragments the conversation. (Maybe there's an easy way to see "this tweet, and everything that descended from it, in order" on Twitter, but I never found it. I don't know yet if Mastodon is better for that than Twitter was.)
