Gotta say, I'm with you on C'Mell; I liked her too. I liked Emma Peel but didn't encounter her until I was an adult.

Lessa is the main character in Dragonflight by Anne McCaffery.

Helen America is the main character in "The Lady Who Sailed The Soul" by Cordwainer Smith.

C'Mell is probably my favorite of the bunch.
