Charles Babbage, inventor of the digital computer (and arguably of the failed computer company, since he kept changing the design of his Analytical Engine until the project finally ran out of funding) was born 310 years ago today.

It would be most appropriate to burn a dot-com stock certificate in his memory this evening.

  1. I finish installing a new 18GB disk on my file server (the old one was 9.1)
  2. I go out for a walk -- a fairly short one, because I was expecting it to start raining. It didn't.
  3. I pay bills. Bleah.
  4. I repartition the disk on my main Linux workstation (to make a smaller number of bigger partitions to accommodate recent distro bloat)
  5. I don't make it over to Fry's for their one-day sale. Probably just as well.
  6. I catch a cold. Actually I might have had it yesterday: I had a mild sore throat then, too. Double bleah.
