VoIP Toys

This week some more VoIP toys arrived in the mail: a couple of FXO boards from DigitNetworks, and a Sipura SPA-2000 (2-port FXS) from Voxilla. The FXO's are clones of the Digium X100P but about half the price -- or it would be if Digium was still making it.

The theory is that one of the FXO boards will do a better job of interfacing to my phone line than the SPA-3000 I already have; I'll keep the 3K as backup because it provides a fallback in case of power failure. The 2K will give me a separate line for each kid's room, mainly so I (or rather Asterisk) can give them wakeup calls. (If I keep the second line instead of going to a dry pair for DSL, I'll leave the 3K on that, where it is now.)

Not entirely clear what I'll do with the second FXO board; it was cheap, there was a discount on the pair, and they're in limited supply. I may take it in to work to replace the loathsome voice mail that comes with our centrex system.

Much happy hacking ahead, when I have the time for it.
