Catching up

Got a call from Mom last night; she was back from her timeshare in Cancun and about to leave for a tour of Vietnam -- she'd already be on her way by now. In between she appears to have sold her house, for the asking price plus $7K for the furniture. The housing market in Florida seems to be heating up. Assuming everything goes through, she'll have two months to move.

I've been spending the last two weeks at work writing technical reports in preparation for the annual research report, which is due at the end of March. That's what our lab actually gets paid for. It has something to do with our contract and the way the Japanese tax laws work -- one copy gets turned in to the beancounters, who as far as I know do nothing but weigh it before sending it to a warehouse somewhere to keep its predecessors company.

Actually, I like writing, and writing these reports has done a great deal to help me get my thoughts together about some of the tricky design decisions involved in my current project. (I can't be more specific here, of course. We're hoping to eventually make this one open source, though, so it should all be public eventually.)

We have both a housewarming party and a housefilk to go to tonight; fortunately they're only a mile or three apart. And maybe I can get back into recording mode this afternoon. We'll see.
