mdlbear: (hacker glider)
DocBug ([livejournal.com profile] docbug_feed) has a good writeup on the BlackDog pocket Linux server. It has some clever ideas in it; basically you can carry a complete X session around with you and access it out anyplace you can plug in a USB device. Looks like my group may be getting a few to play with.

Meanwhile, I forgot to mention that Friday I went to Fry's after lunch and picked up a couple of their cheap wireless routers, on sale at $17 each. It was just a day after /. pointed at this article on LinuxDevices. Careful analysis shows that, in spite of LD's headline ("Linux hacked onto $20 wireless 802.11b/g router"), the "hacking" website is basically just a collection of specs and wishful thinking. But the price was still right -- this gives me one to put in the garage to beef up the signal in the back of the house, plus one to hack on experiment with and/or toss into the travel kit. The pair still comes in at less than the cost of a Linksys WRT54G (which we already know how to hack).
