mdlbear: portrait of me holding a guitar, by Kelly Freas (freas)

I finally sat down and keyed in my (current) version of "House Carpenter", mainly as background for "Demon Lover". My version comes mostly from the singing of Joan Baez, since that's the one I learned first, but I've pulled in a couple from Child to highlight the demonic nature of the lover, and cleaned up the pronoun usage a bit. I still haven't decided whether to do it in concert -- probably not, since it's pretty long -- but will probably haul it out in a circle. Especially if I can get [livejournal.com profile] cflute to help out with the inevitable follower.

Come to think of it, this would work pretty well as a duet, too. Don't think I've ever heard it done that way.

Well, it's nice to know I can still sort of sight-read after all those years decades of not playing the piano. I've been trying to get back the melody for "House Carpenter" after years of drift, and trying to learn "Wings". When I sing them the melodies keep trying to go places they don't belong, and then get all upset when they wind up in blind alleys in the dark.

It's nice having a keyboard in the house again. I can read music on piano, but not on guitar. I'm a very old and clumsy bear, and set in my ways.

And by the way, [livejournal.com profile] telynor is evil, evil, evil for recommending Lies My Music Teacher Told Me: Music Theory for Grownups by Gerald Eskelin. I'm probably going to get a lot less done in the next couple of days than I might have.
