From [livejournal.com profile] madfilkentist, who got it from [livejournal.com profile] khaosworks, I tried doing an ego search on . My book was found in 276 libraries in the US. It's currently selling for an embarassing 83 cents on Amazon. (BTW, entry #5 on the ego search is a false positive -- one of the papers in that book is by my father. Entry 4 is a much less interesting false positive.

Extra points, as usual, for recognizing the source of the title.

Went to the Summer Bash at Xocolatl yesterday with the [livejournal.com profile] flower_cat -- first time in a while that she's been feeling well enough to go. Some good singing in the evening. Lots of people with LJ handles, many of which I know but am too lazy to look up. Colleen's plate of cold cuts and bowl of salsa went over very well; the salsa was an off-the-top-of-her-head recipe involving Fresno peppers, raspberries, pineapple, and onion.

NASA can't find original tape of moon landing | Tech&Sci | Science | Reuters.co.uk
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government has misplaced the original recording of the first moon landing, including astronaut Neil Armstrong's famous "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind," a NASA spokesman said on Monday.

Armstrong's famous space walk, seen by millions of viewers on July 20, 1969, is among transmissions that NASA has failed to turn up in a year of searching, spokesman Grey Hautaloma said.

"We haven't seen them for quite a while. We've been looking for over a year and they haven't turned up," Hautaloma said.

Pluto faces expulsion from planetary league | The Register
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has gathered in Prague to finally settle a matter of galactic import: whether Pluto is in fact a planet or should be relegated to the second division of Kuiper Belt Objects and similar detritus.
There's a more informative article in Guardian Unlimited, but it's not as amusing.

My personal guess is that they'll set the size limit just low enough to allow Pluto, and add something about it not being a satellite of some other planet (otherwise the Moon would qualify) and with a reasonably circular orbit reasonably close to the ecliptic. (The values of "reasonably" being chosen, again, to allow Pluto.)

[livejournal.com profile] cadhla recently posted this excellent set of notes on filk (and other) concerts: the etiquette of requesting one, how to plan your concert, how to prepare for the inevitable goofs and glitches. Kind of hard to describe, so if you ever think you might someday find yourself giving a filk concert, go read it. I'll wait.

Anyone who saw one of [livejournal.com profile] cadhla's recent concerts, at OVFF in 2005 or Consonance in 2006, or heard rumors about them, should have a pretty good idea of how qualified she is to give advice of this sort. Many of the comments are worth a read, too.
