raw notes )

Only a so-so day; it didn't feel terribly productive, though I guess I did a lot in the morning and early afternoon. I started off pulling together the last of my financial information for co-sponsoring [livejournal.com profile] selkit's immigration, and dropping it off at the lawyer's office. Then I went to Kaiser to renew some prescriptions, only to find that somehow they had me down as double-insured. WTF?

So I went down to Kaiser's member services office and found that

  1. Ricoh hasn't canceled last year's plan yet. I can probably expect a huge bill for missed co-pays when they do.
  2. The plan for this year is potentially much more expensive: it has a 10% co-insurance payment on hospital, emergency, and nursing home payments, with a $250/person deductable and $3000/person cap. If we'd had that last year we'd have been down three grand at least. Gaaak!

I like my employer a lot, but I'm not all that pleased with their HR department right now. They're using a recent merger as an excuse to cut benefits. I know -- times are hard, and I'm lucky to have a job I like. But still...

The evening... Not bad, though I mostly hid in the office as usual. Good backrub from Tabby, but not much one-on-one conversation. A little guitar noodling in the living room, though no singing. Must play more -- my fingers are in pretty bad shape.

Links under the cut, as usual.

Today I am thankful for:

  • Colleen figuring out how to use the Kindle store. (Actually, I guess we'll see just how thankful I can afford to be.)
  • The fact that the Kindle store has things like the complete works of Jules Verne and the complete Sherlock Holmes for a buck or less.
  • The Kindle's latest software upgrade, which seems to have made it stable enough for her to actually use.
  • Changing requirements at work, which give me a little less that I need to work on right away.
  • Good Drugs!! (especially doxazosin, right now)
  • Friends who are awesomely good at cleaning.
  • A far better First Week than last year's.
