Surreality check

The person on /. who called this "the most surreal thing I've seen today" obviously hadn't also seen The March of the Sinister Ducks. But it's a close second.

Not that perpendicular recording isn't pretty cool; Hitachi is announcing a half-terabyte drive, after all.

The fact that is was made by a mega-corp makes the drive video far more surreal in my eyes. But I had already heard the duck song, so maybe that is biasing my judgement.

You're probably too young to have seen the "Captain Zilog" comic book and posters, then. About 20 years ago, when the fight was between the Z8000 and the Motorola 68000. It's true that Zilog wasn't nearly as big as Hitachi, but it was owned by Exxon at the time.

Sorry; confused reference. I was working at Zilog at the time. The Mile High comics link was just the first one I turned up that had a decent image of the cover.
