... in this case, nova.thestarport.org, the household's main fileserver. Current status is that the motherboard, CPU and RAM I bought yesterday have been installed and appear to be working -- at any rate, it boots. I want to give it some burn-in time before switching over, but things are looking pretty good at this point.

There are a couple of minor gotchas, all the result of having gone for the cheapest possible closeout at Fry's. The board has only four PCI slots, not the five that I would have preferred, and the AGP slot won't take older AGP video cards (like the one I got for $6.99 at Surplus Computers last week). Not a problem until I decide I need more than two more PCI cards besides the SCSI card that's currently in the old nova.

And the plastic shroud for one of the SATA connectors is missing; possibly on the floor somewhere, or it may be the reason that almost all of the boards I saw at Fry's were returns. Again not a problem as long as SATA drives are roughly double the price of the ATA drives I'm using currently.

The whole thing took a bit longer than I really meant to spend on it, and there's probably another hour when I finally make the swap.
