Colleen wanted to go to ABC Medical to look at scooters. She immediately fell in love with a Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller 3 Wheel Scooter, which they wanted some $1500 for. A little outside our price range, seeing as Costco has a somewhat similar scooter for $799. We nearly bought it anyway, but one arm was damaged and wouldn't be in until later in the week; we left my contact info and went out for a drive.

When we got home, I found it for $899 at 1800wheelchair.com. Much as I like to buy things locally, $600 is a lot of money. They quote delivery as 3-5 days, so it ought to arrive before we need it next weekend.

Colleen and [livejournal.com profile] pocketnaomi can have scooter races at Baycon.

Must be a scootin' kind of day...I just made an unsuccessful attempt to price out rentals (if only to confirm my belief that I can't afford one for the con).

I could conceivably manage that (albeit at the cost of having no money for the Dealers Room, but that may well be a worthwhile trade-off). I may try stopping by there tomorrow, assuming they're open.

I think 1800Wheelchair is where I got my wheelchair several years back. The price was right, but the customer service wasn't.

I ordered extended legs, and got shipped the regular ones. He promised to send the correct ones (I think after some arguing as to whether I would pay to have them shipped), but insisted I have the incorrect ones packed up and ready to send back [he said he'd cover the return postage] with the guy that delivered the correct ones. I did so... but the guy had no idea what I was talking about. I went several rounds with this before giving up.

Also, one of the large wheels didn't seem to be working quite right, and made a worrisome ticking sound. I wrote him, he said he'd send me a replacement wheel. After a while a wheel did arrive... but it was one of the little front wheels. There were several more rounds trying to get a correct replacement.

So... just be careful, and if it's not quite right it might be better to just buy the replacement parts out of pocket at a local store. But this was upwards of 4 years ago, so the owner might have changed.

I have my eye on http://www.travelscoot.com , but it's not in the budget yet.

No arms is no problems for me, and if it's as easy to back up by foot as it appears in the video, that's also no big deal. "Light enough to wrangle easily" and "Folds up small enough to travel easily" are much more important for my "only on long days" needs.

Hey, very nice site. I came across this on Google, and I am stoked that I did. I will definitely be coming back here more often. Wish I could add to the conversation and bring a bit more to the table, but am just taking in as much info as I can at the moment. Thanks for sharing.
