In order to get the grab bars installed on the back bathroom's toilet, one must first remove the toilet seat. Which was installed at least a decade ago. With steel bolts. Can you say corrosion? Right. Not really a good time to discover that the household's supply of WD-40 ran out several years ago.

I won this round. The final battle was fought with vice grips and a 12" pipe wrench. I need a new pair of bolts.

Oh Dear, for future reference, any soda will also work...but Coke works best.

I use it on my battery cables too!

Hmm.. I shall remember that - though I DO have a goodly supply of WD40.

OTOH, my strength is as a strength of 3 because I rolled low... so I never try to do my own plumbing. SOMETHING will have corroded solid beyond my ability to move even WITH WD40. Though I shall try Coke next time (diet ok? - I can't think of any reason sugar would help.)

Yep it doesn't matter what kind of Coke, diet should work just fine.

Old D&D gag - you had six characteristics, including Strength, and you rolled three six-sided dice and added the pips to determine your rating in that characteristic. My first character had mostly eights and got dubbed "Mediocre Fred".

WD-40 isn't the best thing to use to break corroded joints. You want a penetrating grease, but you also want something like CLR (Calcium Lime and Rust Remover) to get rid of the rust.

Realistically, you might as well take the opportunity to get a new toilet seat. One that's fairly soft, or at least one that closes softly?

My favorite solution to corroded joints is to call a plumber. :) Fortunately, I know a good one.

A new seat would be good -- it's time. We need one in front, too.
