A busy, emotionally-draining day. Major progress at work, but not enough to get a demo done by the end of the day. The new deadline is 8/6. This is not helped by attending OSCon the next 2.5 days, and visiting the East coast the weekend of August 1st (with travel time in the two days on either side). Well, I'm using git these days; I'll be able to keep coding even when I'm off the net. Hopefully by the end of next week the hard piece will be done.

I did manage a short walk.

Blew off the opening night of OSCon -- I was still at work when registration closed.

Divorce is hell on friends, not just the family directly involved. That's probably all I'll be able to say about that.

I had a hell of a time getting to sleep.

I wish it didn't too. I want to make it clear that the *only* reason I asked you either to take sides or to expect we wouldn't tell you many details is that you tend to speak very freely to your other friends without keeping secrets to yourself very well. I'd be fine with a situation in which I told you everything and it went into a black hole and stayed there, but you wouldn't.

Sorry I haven't been commenting much lately, but I haven't had much time for deep thought, and I figured that just repeating my "attaboy" comments to support the progress you've been making might wear pretty thin after a while. And I'm just popping in here to say that, if you find yourself anywhere in the NY metropolitan area, either give me a call, or (probably better for you) tell me when you're going to be available and I'll call you.

(You have been making some rather good progress, you know.)

'S okay. If it's gonna happen, it'll happen.

Sympathies on the divorce thing

We're dealing with that in the family, too. At this point, we've come firmly down on the side of the "kids" (who are 16 and 18).

I'll see you around OSCON, maybe -- I'm here all week. Ping me if you want to try to coordinate lunch or something.

As a general statement, amen to this. There's one that happened in my primary group of friends, and we're still feeling out the ramifications.

(hug)

This was not a random drive-by hugging but a carefully selected hug, delivered on foot.
