  * 9ish call Alex if haven't heard from him.
  & final get-together in Alex's room and goodbyes by the car
    ! very mixed feelings, of course.  Relaxed, sad.

  ! More cheerful than usual on the trip (though I still didn't talk with my
    seatmates) 
  ! there were a couple of times when I missed my guitar, but I don't think it
    would have been worthwhile taking Plink.
  & No work-related writing at all
  ! I didn't know how close to the edge I was until I stepped back far enough
    to see it.
  ! very happy to be home

I'm glad I went to DC to visit my brother and family, but also very glad to be home. As it turned out, I really needed the vacation. I hadn't noticed how close to the edge I was until I stepped back far enough to see it.

I missed having a guitar a couple of times, but it probably wouldn't have been worth the extra luggage-wrangling to take Plink. On the trip back I put the rolly up in the overhead rack and used the little duffle under the seat -- that worked much better. The rolly is just a little too big to go under an aisle seat. I don't think it would be possible to play that game with a guitar.

It's good to be home.

You never wrote about the arrangement, but obviously someone was helping Colleen while you were gone. If you're that close to the edge, make similar arrangments part of the time while you're IN town. You need the breaks. You'll all be happier.

We had a friend staying with her full time, including at night. We paid her a little. I don't think it would work with me at home -- I'd still be "on call", and Colleen would still want to spend time with me.

Some other arrangement might work. We were originally going to give me an evening free on Tuesdays; don't know how much it would have helped. We may try to restart that.
