Thankful Thursday

It's an interesting coincidence that the last day of the year, and of the decade, falls on a Thursday.

• I'm very thankful that they're over. I'm thankful that I and my family lived through them.
• I'm thankful that Colleen is in better health now than she was this spring. She has a long way to go, but she's still improving. Our relationship, which was pretty good to begin with, is also still improving -- I'm thankful for that, too.
• I'm thankful that our kids have grown up to be cool people.
• I'm thankful for my friends, and my chosen family. During the last decade I met Callie and, later, Naomi, my sister-of-choice. I don't think I'd have made it through the last two years without their help.
• I'm incredibly thankful that, with help, I have learned a lot about myself, and that I'm still learning. I've found my heart, somehow. Now if only I could remember where I put the rest of my body.
• I'm thankful that I still have a the same job I love, and the same roof over my head, that I started the decade with.

Things could have been better. I wish... Enough of that. I'm deeply, deeply thankful that they weren't as bad as they could easily have been.

Back when our relationship was starting out and feeling its way, I occasionally had fantasies about the way our two households seemed to be coming together. It's not exactly the way I'd imagined it, of course, but I like the way it's going.
