: lost Carol of Bellatrix to cancer
Duchess Carol of Bellatrix January 24, 2010
Colleen is especially broken up about it; they'd been friends.
( (09:04:20 PM) ***me has also been entertaining the silly notion of
choreographing "Looking Glass" country-dance style. It would require
     wireless headsets, of course.
(09:04:56 PM) Naomi: And a fourth person.
(09:05:35 PM) me: I think there are ways we could do it with three.
(09:09:01 PM) me: There's a wonderful duet in Ruddygore we could do,
too. (with Callie on flute, of course).
  )
  * fix Gentle Arms of Eden lead sheet (page break, last chorus),
    several others.
& Oddly, the TGl songbook wasn't including songs with - in the name.
What's really odd is that I don't appear to have caught on until now.

Got a fair amount done, and had a basically good day, but no walkies. My calves were still hurting a little -- I think the elliptical used some muscles I'm not used to using. Don't want to push my luck, and besides it was raining much of the day.

Weight still trending up. Grump.

Duchess Carol of Bellatrix died of cancer. I really hate January and February -- we've lost too many friends and family in those months.

Some good shopping at Ross (on the way back from picking up prescriptions at Kaiser): a 26" Samsonite suitcase (so I won't have to keep borrowing Colleen's), and a 12" 5qt "saucepan". The latter is more of a straight-sided frying pan; it has a glass lid and looks perfect for bacon and a lot of the other things we pan-fry. I really like All-Clad's "Emerilware" line: metal handles, and a high-quality non-stick lining.

And I managed to get some work done on lead sheets for Tempered Glass. Finally!

Many good links; I want to draw some attention to [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith's Homecrafting: A Guide to Family Skills, and [livejournal.com profile] rickybuchanan's Not Done Living. Both have a lot of fantastic articles and resource links.

I don't remember whether I told you about [livejournal.com profile] rickybuchanan or not... if not, where did you come across her stuff? She is one of my oldest and dearest online friends, going back to the BBS era (I first "met" her just before she got sick with the beginning of her now-chronic illness). She's incredibly bright, and talented in several major ways (beginning with art and music), and it's just scaldingly unfair that she should be so afflicted! Oh, and she's also one of the two best huggers in the Southern Hemisphere.

She was one of the first people I met in the SCA, in the first decade of the organization. She was one of the sweetest people imaginable. I hope she was out of pain in her last few weeks.

Several comments:

1. I'm sorry to hear about another succumbing to cancer. Fuck cancer.

2. Thanks for the recommendation about pans. I must acquire a 10" saute pan, of non-stick surface and preferably not quite as spendy as calphalon. Watched Julia Child's "Omelette Show" and became inspired, but we have no pans suitable. Argh!

3. Are you familiar with LilyPond? John is very fond of it for composing and engraving music. It's a Linux thingie. If you have another Linux-y option for creating music notation, I'd love to hear about it. Probably he would, too. :-)

4. See you this weekend!

Yeah, Ricky is also one of several people who turned me on to Dreamwidth, all about at the same time. She does some development for them, when she has the strength (AFAIK, all her stuff is either *nix or Mac).

If you're tweaking with lead sheets may I make a request? The current layout for Gentle Arms of Eden has two lines of the third (I think) verse on the bottom of the first page, then the rest of the verse on the second page. Can there be a page break so that no verse goes across pages? There's plenty of room on the second page, at least in the version we have.
