Got a fair amount done, and had a basically good day, but no walkies. My calves were still hurting a little -- I think the elliptical used some muscles I'm not used to using. Don't want to push my luck, and besides it was raining much of the day.
Weight still trending up. Grump.
Duchess Carol of Bellatrix died of cancer. I really hate January and February -- we've lost too many friends and family in those months.
Some good shopping at Ross (on the way back from picking up prescriptions at Kaiser): a 26" Samsonite suitcase (so I won't have to keep borrowing Colleen's), and a 12" 5qt "saucepan". The latter is more of a straight-sided frying pan; it has a glass lid and looks perfect for bacon and a lot of the other things we pan-fry. I really like All-Clad's "Emerilware" line: metal handles, and a high-quality non-stick lining.
And I managed to get some work done on lead sheets for Tempered Glass. Finally!
Many good links; I want to draw some attention to
ysabetwordsmith's Homecrafting: A
Guide to Family Skills, and
rickybuchanan's Not Done Living. Both have a lot of
fantastic articles and resource links.

Date: 2010-01-25 08:36 pm (UTC)1. I'm sorry to hear about another succumbing to cancer. Fuck cancer.
2. Thanks for the recommendation about pans. I must acquire a 10" saute pan, of non-stick surface and preferably not quite as spendy as calphalon. Watched Julia Child's "Omelette Show" and became inspired, but we have no pans suitable. Argh!
3. Are you familiar with LilyPond? John is very fond of it for composing and engraving music. It's a Linux thingie. If you have another Linux-y option for creating music notation, I'd love to hear about it. Probably he would, too. :-)
4. See you this weekend!

Date: 2010-01-25 10:07 pm (UTC)2. Don't bother with Calphalon. My current favorite for non-stick is All-clad's Emerilware -- a nice durable-looking nonstick surface and all metal. (Anolon, another good one, usually has rubber grips that deteriorate over time.) Available at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Also don't bother with Calphalon hard anodized; get stainless steel instead. You can scape and scrub the heck out of it with no ill effects, and it'll still be in good shape for your grandkids to fight over.
3. I've seen it, but haven't used it. I haven't used either of these, but they look interesting. ABC interests me because it's text.
