Saturday update
2004-04-03 05:30 pmI was expecting to have the whole day to myself, with the family going to an SCA event in Gilroy. Silly me! Emmy's middle school was having an open house, so I get to pick her up at the friend's house where she was spending the night, take her to the school where I get to meet most of her teachers, and get home around noon. So I spent much of the afternoon alternating between finishing up the tax sorting, and reading the usual suspects on the Web.
About 2pm I went out to pick up an Epson Stylus Photo R200 printer, which Fry's has on sale for $99 this weekend. I nearly bought the R300 a couple of weeks ago; it costs $80 more and has a card reader (whee!) and a little display so that you can print directly off a digital camera (you mean, before fixing up the image in Photoshop or the Gimp?). (I didn't really save $80 by waiting -- the R300 was on sale then. But I didn't have the money in my checking account at that point.)
The big win for both flavors, which have the same print engine, is the fact that they can print on CDs. Another win is that they have a separate cartridges for each color of ink. I note in passing that the printer only cost $22 more than the price of a complete set of six (CMYKcm) cartridges. The main downside is that the Linux drivers are still experimental; luckily the old printer still works, and works fine under Linux. Besides, there's no need to replace it until it runs out of ink! I just wanted to get the good price.
Now it's back to sorting. The plan is to start data entry tomorrow and finish over the course of the next week, then put it into TaxCut and turn the crank next weekend. Did I mention that I procrastinate? Must have put off mentioning it...
