chaoswolf starts her fencing class this morning, so she bounced out of bed considerably before her sister -- a very unusual event. The YD, in turn, starts a computer graphics class today. We'll see. The Wolf enjoyed it, though she never seemed to develop any interest in computers beyond gaming.
Last night was the start of Passover; although my heritage is Jewish, my part of the family has never been observant. For us, the main advantage of the Passover season is the availability of matzoh in industrial quantities.
I learned this recipe from my late father, who used to cook breakfast most Sunday mornings. He also taught me the trick of making pancake batter in a large measuring cup.

old family recipe: fried matzoh
- Crumble 2 or 2.5 squares of matzoh into a bowl
- Pour in enough water to cover; pour off. The matzoh should be moist but not soggy.
- In a separate bowl, beat together an egg and a roughly equal volume of milk.
- Fold the egg mix into the matzoh. Let stand while you...
- Melt 1 tbsp of butter in an 8-inch, nonstick pan.
- Pour in the matzoh mixture and spread it out.
- Cook, covered, at low heat, for ~10 minutes.
- Flip; cook for another 5 minutes on the other side.
