A pretty good day. Very nice drive with Colleen after dinner -- it was especially nice on the way out, in the gathering twilight. Companionable and peaceful. Colleen took her walker out to the car rather than the scooter. Much easier on me.

And a good shopping expedition, where stopping by Starving Musician got me a pair of CAD GXL2400 microphones for $50 each. They're missing their shockmounts, but for that price I'll improvise.

On the other hand, I didn't take a walk, nor a bike ride, and didn't get any of the scratch tracks put down that I wanted to have done by now. Grump.

On the gripping hand, I have a note up there to the effect that my sister of choice pocketnaomi is amazing.

Generic shockmounts like this one work quite well in my experience. You don't have to get the OEM version.

Thanks. Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I actually have a couple that came with a set of GXL3000's, that might fit even though the 2400's are considerably smaller in diameter. We'll see.

Oh that'll work fine then. Wrap some extra felt or even cloth strips around the mic if you need to, it'll be great. The key thing is to have the mic stably supported in the centre ring which is supported by the elastics. Do that and you're golden.

I am usually levelheaded and competent in an emergency. It's after the emergency when I fall apart. See now: not emotionally falling apart, because I don't have a significant emotional stress level about water danger, but my body has not been functional for almost any useful purpose since we got home Monday afternoon.

Falling apart afterward may be inconvenient, but it's kind of expected. Possibly beneficial, even, in that it helps balance out any tendency toward adrenalin addiction.
