R.I.P. Carolyn Kayta Barrows

We lost another friend to cancer, early this morning.

We'd known Kayta from back in our days in the SCA, and later in fandom. Cancer sucks.

I'm sorry for your loss. From what I've read of her on other journals (I did not have the privilege of knowing her myself) she sounds like a very special person, who spread knowledge and light.

I had no idea she was ill. Carole Parker posted about it on FB. I'm stunned. I remember meeting her in the SCA 25 or so years ago. She was bright and creative and funny and I will miss her. Hugs to all who knew her.

Thanks. Yeah, we'd been in and out of touch; more so recently when she'd been staying with Carole Parker and Bill Laubenheimer. Her younger daughter Eileen has been staying with us the last couple of days.

I met her in AS VI or VII. I was either a senior in HS, or a frosh in college. We've known one another for all that time, friendly enough for a casual chat, but not enough for an exchange of phone numbers.

I sat with her alone for an hour on Friday, and on Saturday for an hour with her family. I was going to have visited today as well, but it was her time, and I got the email from Carole before I got around to setting off.

Yeah, cancer sucks. I've known too many folks with blood cancers.

Yeah; I'd been planning to visit her Saturday, but other things happened and got in the way. *sigh*

No, Barb was breast cancer. This was something else, but I'm not sure what.
