my eyelid. Grumpy bear. Actually less grumpy than I might be; I'm not
     sure why.
% 9:25 sleepy. Too early, but it's sooooo tempting.

So... yeah. I was home sick yesterday. I still am (my eye started feeling better in mid-morning once I could actually open it, but...) In addition to being hurty and miserable I was sleepy and went to bed early, after getting too little sleep. Without the CPAP, because a nasal mask doesn't do any damned good if you can't force air through your nose.

I had vague thoughts of working from home. And I did a little, but not enough to count as "working". So that's it, pretty much. Finally went to take a bath around 11 after dozing in my chair a couple of times, fell asleep in the tub, and went to bed around midnight.

In spite of being pretty miserable the whole day, I surprised myself by not being very grumpy or upset about it. Not complaining about that part.

Along the way I collected a lot of links, again mostly about the TSA's new search procedures. I'm at risk for skin cancer and don't have much body modesty; I'm the type who'd be tempted to moan in pleasure while being searched just to mess with somebody's head. But I'm also very much opposed to what Bruce Schneier calls security theater. And many of the people I know are rape and abuse survivors. So the more protest over security procedures that offer people the choice between an increased cancer risk and something too close for comfort to sexual assault, the better.

Have a nice trip.

The article on the Dalai Lama was excellent. One of the problems with a lot of Christian clergy is they don't laugh enough.

Take a handful of tissues and get them wet, but not dripping, with lukewarm water. Hold them against your eye until the gunk sticking your eyelid shut dissolves. Don't use a washcloth - it'll just spread bacteria. And wash your hands thoroughly, preferably with anti-bacterial soap, after every time you touch the area of your eyes.

I occasionally get nasty reactions to allergens and/or irritants, especially since the cataract surgery, and one eye will usually get full of mucus and tears, necessitating wiping out with cold water. I have to confess that most of the time I wind up using a wad of toilet paper :-(

Hand sanitizer turns out to be nearly useless - it's slightly better than not doing anything at all, but just smearing that gelled isopropyl alcohol around doesn't get down into the microscopic crevices in the skin where the bacteria hide out. Not only that, the alcohol makes your skin dry, worse than constant washing. Washing with warm water and soap (which doesn't really even need to be antibacterial), rubbing all the surfaces of your hands for the time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" twice (i.e., 20 seconds), rinsing completely and drying thoroughly, efficiently gets rid of almost all microorganisms on the hands.
