A party, but not a very big one. I guess a lot of the usual suspects were out of town. Some unexpected guests, though; I'm not complaining. Much.

I had several good conversations (mostly me listening, but ok) and managed a little time out in the living room. A few minutes of random noodling, but no singing. That's ok, too.

I got ice across San Carlos at Cash & Carry -- next time it might be simpler just to walk there with a hand-truck and $10, though I did get a much better parking spot when I came back.

Today's links include an article on how to get your profile off of Spokeo, a site that mines public databases for personal information. Interestingly, Spokeo's privacy page links to another site, reputationdefender.com, that offers to keep you from being listed on Spokeo and similar sites -- for a price. What a racket!

The year is starting out badly for some people, including my daughter Chaos, who lost five of her friends in a fire. If you smoke, please stop. And 2011, you had better start treating my friends and family better.

Depending on weather conditions, and how close together the buildings are, fire can spread from one building to another - and firefighters often evacuate buildings that are close to one that's on fire, Just In Case. But the important thing is that your daughter is safe.

Alas, with two heavy smokers in one apartment, that increases the likelihood of cigarettes being the cause of the fire. A dried-out evergreen tree, maybe some paper debris that didn't get picked up, a hot ember falling off of a cigarette...

(Sometimes I think that tobacco is the Native Americans' revenge for Europeans having given them alcohol, smallpox, and Christianity.)
