High-order bit -- I note with considerable pleasure that Vampire Mega-Byte is on the Pegasus brainstorming list under Best Classic Filksong. Along with "Ship of Stone", which would make it a difficult choice if they both came up on the ballot. I'd also like to congratulate [livejournal.com profile] pocketnaomi for her well-deserved mention under Best Songwriter. And mention that Quiet Victories is my Composer's Choice.

I never did get a walk in. But lots of puttering. And I finally found the missing wedding invitation -- on the floor near the door of the (home) office. The fact that the color is close to that of the flooring is no real excuse -- I must have stepped over it a hundred times. Bah!

After several days of floundering around at work, a Jira ticket was dropped into my lap (by my boss, who was just promoted into that position last week and needs to get rid of some of his), so I spent the afternoon happily hacking. (There's a song* parody in there somewhere, I fancy.)

The new Antler rolling backpack has a name: Chamois (pronounced "Shammy" in case it wasn't obvious). My sister the mountain goat was very insistent. (It's true that a goat has horns rather than antlers, but don't tell Chamois that -- she's still a little uncomfortable about being out as "A Doe in Velvet".)

Lots of links; the most noteworthy one being Motion to Vacate Prop 8 Ruling Over Judge Walker's Sexuality is Denied. The rest are mainly of interest to various kinds of geeks, with the puredyne "instant USB-bootable creative desktop" being kind of a crossover between the music/video geeks and the computer geeks.

Thank you!

I'm happy to hear that. "A Doe in Velvet" is one of several genderfic poems that I wrote during a Poetry Fishbowl. The June 2011 theme was alternative sexuality & gender studies, which also yielded some good ones, but most of them were more abstract. "Fiorenza and the Witch-Son" is another narrative genderfic poem, though, currently in microfunding:

Ship of Stone's a better song. I'll vote for you against a lot of competition, but it depends on what you've got up -- Vampire Megabyte is very clever and a lot of fun, but it's not a classic with Ship of Stone's weight.

Good attitude. I'm usually happy to vote against myself when I honestly believe there is better out there, and although there is no realistic chance of me making the ballot in anything yet, I hope someday I'll earn that place. If so, whether I'd vote for myself or not would depend entirely on the quality of the company.

So far, I am delighted to have earned a place in someone's heart so deeply that they wanted to suggest my name for consideration as the best songwriter in filk. But that's as far as it will go, and as far as it should go. There's a thing called "body of work," and as of yet, mine is far too slim. When I have a bunch more years behind me, have written man more songs, and we have sent them flitting out into the wild to make friends, then it's time enough to think of such things. I'm still a beginner. But a very proud one, to have even one person out there who loved my songs so much as to mention me in this context.

Just make sure that Chami knows that I'm really okay with her being a deer. I wanted her named for me, because I've always wanted to have antlers when I grow up, that's all. I'm sure if I work hard enough, I can learn to antle my horns!

*hugs the rollerpack* We're happy to have you here! Treat my big brother well, okay? He needs you, I think -- he carries way too much on his back, literally and metaphorically.

Your backpacks and your sister are conspiring against you, Bear. Be very afraid. ;)
