@ The Wordsmith's Forge - Mike Lofgren leaves 'the cult'
Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult
It should have been evident to clear-eyed observers that the Republican
Party is becoming less and less like a traditional political party in a
representative democracy and becoming more like an apocalyptic cult, or
one of the intensely ideological authoritarian parties of 20th century
Europe. This trend has several implications, none of them pleasant.
Political Animal - Mike Lofgren leaves the cult
For much of the American mainstream, theres very likely an assumption that
voters can choose between a center-left party and a center-right party,
because this assumption was generally accurate for several
generations. Its past time for the mainstream to realize this is simply no
    longer true.

  * started a "mkfs -c -c" on the old backup drive. It will take several
days to do the multi-pattern check, but at the end I'll know whether the
drive is salvagable. Or at least have something that's wiped well enough
    to recycle.

F7b9 is just a Co with the open A string and a thumb-bar on the low E at
the first fret. Bo and Em9 are two fingers each. Email to TGl.

  = mkfs -c -c: 14 hours/pass on a 1.5TB drive; 4 passes. So minimum 56h,
more if "testing" just means writing the pattern, and there's a second
read pass. -> the whole system froze ~55% through. I'm going to butter
that drive and declare it toast.

Lots of puttering (though not much visible), and a good walk around the Rose Garden. Nice, relaxing day at home.

Finished looking up, and started learning, the chords to a song -- I'm being deliberately vague here because we want to surprise people with our next concert, at Conflikt. It'll be... different.

I officially declared the old backup drive toast when mkfs with extra checking crashed my system halfway through the first pass.

Lots of links, of course, including Crohn's Disease Diet, Foods & Nutrition (I copied the list of bad-for-you foods in the notes; naturally it includes a lot of Colleen's favorites) and the excellent Goodbye to All That: Reflections of a GOP Operative Who Left the Cult (plus a link to some commentary). That's scary, but maybe now a few more people in the media and the Democratic Party will pay attention. What's even more scary is that they probably won't.

I set my mood as "good", but actually a lot of things are looking kind of bleak.
