It was a pretty good day, possibly because my experiment -- raising the head of the bed -- appeared to be successful. (I still was congested by evening, but it was definitely a better day than usual for my throat.)

It probably helped that I started the day with some chord practice; that's unusual for me, but I should continue with it if I can.

I'm still looking at netbooks, and have narrowed the field to the Thinkpad X120e. It has the trackpoint pointing stick, an excellent (and spillproof!) keyboard, and a 64-bit processor. And fits in Minnie -- I tried one at Central Computers. That still leaves plenty of room for dithering, of course -- I have to decide whether to spend the extra $150 on the dual-core processor (with more disk and RAM), and whether to punt and let $EMPLOYER buy it for me.

Tough decision. It feels more comfortable owning my own gear, but I'm probably due for a new laptop at work and it would be easy to justify. But it would take longer to get here. Or I could get a more powerful machine for work, e.g. an X220, and a single-core X120 for myself.

I have to decide by sometime in mid-December -- the Wolfling is anxious to inherit my old netbook. *sigh* I hate making decisions, especially when they involve money. Which has gotten me into a lot of trouble...

OK, now I'm leaning toward spending the $450 or so and getting the dual-core model. Last time I made that kind of choice (on a bike; about the same amounts of money) I ended up regretting I'd gone for the cheaper (= heavier) one. The dual-core will be good for the long haul.

    Add $1-200 or so for the 6-cell battery, larger disk, and 4GB RAM. The
    cheap ones are single-core (E-240); more expensive are dual (E-350).
    Makes it a hard choice: $300 vs $440; single-core may use less power
      The idea of $EMPLOYER buying it adds additional complexity; could go
    with an X220 for that. So could go X220 for work, single-core for home.
      E-240 is same power, half the {cores, cache}

the x120e is defined as a notebook, not a netbook I think - there is a difference (disk drive vs memory chips is one difference I think)

Definitely go for the higher power, higher memory option. Especially if you have any notion of running the kind of programs I do (graphics-intensive). Avoiding frustration is WORTH IT.
