Signal boost: health care

A friend of mine, pocketnaomi, is CALLING FOR HELP because of problems with her health care provider, Grouphealth. Specifically, they have taken the only drug that works on her fibromyalgia out of their formulary. That means that, as of July 1, she'll be paying $600/month for it.

Anyone with ideas about what to do should go comment on her post either here on DW or over on LJ.

Can her doctor advocate for her? Sometimes insurance companies will make exceptions if a doctor explains why nothing else works.

Sometimes the drug companies have programs to help people who need their drug but can't afford it. Also, find out who makes the decision re what's on the formulary and see if you can arrange a meeting to confront them. Alternatives - is it possible to change ins co.s to one that covers? Oh, and see if you can talk the drug company into confronting the ins. co.
