A fair amount of packing. Bought more book boxes. The woman who came over this morning to give us an estimate on moving said we have over 400 boxes worth of stuff. I gather that this is atypical.

Some more work on the router configuration, which finally appears to be working more-or-less properly.

I made another batch of black bean and corn salsa. Yum.

I ended the day feeling reasonably contented. That's probably mildly unusual; noticing it is even more unusual. So, yeah.

Quite a few links in the notes.

Not nearly as bad as it was, though. This will probably be ok. Emacs over

WRT the FBI in the City of Emeralds: If any encounter with the fuzz goes *any* further than a simple traffic ticket, get a lawyer, demand a lawyer, don't pass go without a lawyer, and don't say ANYTHING until you get one. (This advice from people who are professional lawyers in varying ends of the business.) If you get men in suits or uniforms at your door who don't have a warrant, call 911 (for all you know it's a home invasion), and call your lawyer.

If you don't have one yet, ACLU Legal in Seattle is 206-642-2180. Stick this in every phone you've got, send it to every email account you've got, memorise the sucker if you can, and if you're going to a protest, write it on your arm in Sharpie (unless the protesters have a different number for you).

(Yeah, we get *serious* about protesting up here... )

I didn't have nearly that many. Think I had about 25 or 30, not including large loose objects that couldn't fit into a box. Not typical for me, then again; the only costs I had to endure were truck rental (for the uhaul), bribe (pizza to bribe my minions) and lunch type thing (to provide to the minion driving the truck.) Saved over $500 by having friends help.

You say you leave a week from today? Leave for Utah, or leave for here? I'm still looking forward to coming to visit.

It's not the number of boxes, the charge for moving is generally by the pound. Fen tend to have lots of HEAVY boxes (full of books), so unless the person making the estimate is aware of this they may estimate low if they just use the "average" weight of boxes.

Does the Postal Service still have that super-low rate for mailing books?

If so, how does mailing them to your new address (or to a friend in the destination city) compare to having the movers haul them?

When we moved from our apartment to our house fifteen years ago, we astonished the movers by the amount of books we had. They'd brought the medium sized "in town" truck, and we took our tightly-packed apartment and put it into the now full house.

I use my summer to try and de-clutter and get things out of the house. It's still overwhelming sometimes. I can really feel for you all deciding what to keep and what to move.

Could be worse
