Almost a week. Starting out rather rough: the YD was injured in a near-accident on the bus on Monday, Colleen had an endoscopy appointment on Wednesday (mine is this week), and in between I was very stressed and close to overload. This makes bears grumbly. Grumble.

On the other paw, the house gets closer and closer to reality. It's going to be a strange household -- strange even by Seattle polyamorous fandom standards, I suspect -- but it'll work. It'll work precisely because of its strangeness. Hmm. That really wants a separate post, doesn't it?

It's not something I ever expected. Living with kids younger than my younger brother's grandkids? Taking on over half a megabuck in debt when I'm old enough to retire? Am I crazy? Of course. And I have the prescriptions to prove it.

  ~ cancel dental appointments for Tuesday -- won't be feasible (Colleen did it)
  * walk:  4, 3 and Pike.  
  * Buy:  iGo universal charger, at Office Depot.  It's smaller than the old one
    I gave to the YD, and has a USB charger.  Colleen is using it for her Dell
    netbook, until the one I ordered off Amazon arrives.
  * YD in a near-accident on the bus; she and several others were injured when
    the driver had to stop suddenly to avoid a car that cut in front of the bus.
  % Calmer after dinner, but very close to overload and on edge earlier in the
    afternoon and evening.  Between hearing about the YD, and having both my
    phone and tablet dead from lack of power, and Colleen and Naome both having
    computer trouble (of the simply-not-understanding-it sort), it was just a
    lot to deal with, I guess.  Hot buttered rum also helped.

  * WFH in the afternoon.  Couldn't say I worked more than 5-6 hours.
  * N and the kids over for dinner.  YD came home in time to make lemon chicken,
    after I'd started the rice and defrosted and cut up the chicken.

That does sound like an awfully big financial load to take on at this point. I understand your hopes and it sounds like a nice house, and I hope this works out well for you, but might it be wise to consult a financial advisor or something?

It probably will, and soon. But it was way too good a place to pass up -- by far the best we'd seen, and the closest to being fully accessible for Colleen. Naomi will be paying nearly a third of the mortgage, and the payments will go down again in a couple of years when the San Jose house sells.

It won't be as easy as it would have been if I'd been more careful with money over the last two decades or so, but...

There's also the fact that Colleen gets company and help -- that's huge.

Oh, I see. I didn't realize you were talking debt for two places, one of which you are working on selling, and I agree that accessability and assistance for Colleen is a big deal.
