My tax refund finally showed up in my account on Thursday. So I get to spend the holiday weekend paying the medical bills I've been ignoring for the last year or so. The refund is so large because I forgot to arrange for my 401K plan from Ricoh to be rolled over, so they sent me a check with about $40K taken out for tax withholding. I promptly rolled it over, so I get the withholding back.

Unfortunately, it's a one-time thing.

We had a going-away lunch on Friday for our group's summer intern. Nice kid, but unfortunately I was never able to get through to her about the importance of clean commits (amend and rebase are your friends) and running all the unit tests outside of Eclipse. I spent the afternoon cleaning up. Fortunately, it's the kind of mostly-mindless fiddly stuff that I enjoy every once in a while, and it wasn't nearly as bad a mess as it could have been.

I need to write an article about that, don't I?

Less than a week until Colleen comes home! The house isn't as ready as it should be, but it's getting there. I spent much of yesterday shopping, at Home Depot and Bed, Bath, & Beyond. And Staples -- we were almost out of printer paper.

  * My tax refund finally showed up.  With over $400 in *interest*, which says something.
    The downside is that I get to spend the entire weekend writing checks for (mostly
    medical) bills I've been ignoring.
  * Finally got connected to somebody apparently competent at CenturyLink.  Supposedly the
    number will get ported Tuesday.  The trick is, apparently, opening a new account.
    Which will of course be the old account, since it was a CL number to begin with.

  * Going-away lunch for our group's intern.  Il Fornaio, at company expense.  Yum.
  : OTOH, said intern left something of a mess, with a merge that didn't pass unit tests.
    Managed to get it cleaned up before I left for the weekend.

    All at Westwood Center.  Also stopped at Home Depot, but they didn't have the shelving
    I was looking for.
  * 6ish: The HD on 1st Ave S, which yielded a good set of (Ryobi quick load) drill bits
    and 50' of shelving.  Also a door _knob_ for the basement stairs, which will be harder
    for the cat burglars to jimmy.

    I appear to have already signed up.  This is sensible.  Confirmation # 87473500
  : The hinged-lid Sterilite boxes that I like don't seem to be being made anymore.  Grump.
    Only the 48-qt size is still available, and it's too big.  Amazon lists the 7-qt size
    as unavailable; the next size up, 20-something qts,  is nowhere to be seen.
