Well, I have Nova (the file server) back online, though not fully configured. I also reconfigured the network, adding another WAP. This lets me drop the main SSID, rainbows-end, down to 802-11G. Trying to run G and N on the same network turns out to be a serious mistake. I resurrected the Netgear WNR3500L from Starport for the purpose, so it's running rainbows-end-N and functioning and providing 4 ethernet ports over in the desk area.

Meanwhile, Colleen is making progress -- she gets into her power chair on a regular basis, though she's still not too good at unassisted transfers.

Desti, our little feline escape artist, managed to let herself out onto the roof via the bathroom window, which was open because the mis-drilled holes in the tub had been repaired, and the workman hadn't bothered to close the door. I know, it's expecting a lot, and my little bear-like brain kept thinking up ways to make it my fault, including not remembering to mention the possibility to Naomi, and not having cat-proofed the door to Naomi's bedroom. Desti had, in fact, been put in there, but she was out the door before Naomi could get across the room to stop her.

Fortunately, "The Cat Came Back, the very next day" -- Curio stood on the kitchen counter meowing out the window, and I heard an answer. Opened the front door and there she was. She was very clingy for the next day or so.

Think she's learned not to leave the house? Nawwww. Not likely.

We also had our new instant hot water tap installed. But it didn't work. Spent about an hour tracing tubes and verifying the installation before finally figuring out that it was plugged into the same outlet as the garbage disposal. Both outlets are swtched. :P

We'll have to have an electrician out to re-wire it; it's not a job I feel like tackling myself. While he's here he can install a 110V outlet upstairs in the closet -- the washer-drier combo doesn't take 220. Naturally, nobody sells an adapter. :P

  : should have mounted /backup ro.  When rw, should mount noatime for speed.
  * Went to work without (netbook) cygnus, for the first time in a couple of weeks.  Much
    lighter on the shoulder.
  : The last time a backup was done was June 25. :P  I have been neglectful.  Fortunately,
    I've been working almost entirely off my laptop since then.
  * book flight for OVFF - Th 1024 thru Mo 1028;  Same as Naomi.
  * 15min:  Replaced the very clunky desk lamp with a USB light.  Works because there's a
    power strip on one of the shelves just below eye level.
  * 15min:  Finally have two stacked milk crates with bins for trash and recycling.

    ... which does "git commit --amend" and updates the commit date.

  ! My bear-brain keeps trying to make it my fault, mainly for not warning people about
    the fact that the window was going to be open after the fiberglass repair to the tub.
  : Curio led me a merry chase; I'd leaned out the front door to call Desti, and he
    scampered out.  Finally let himself be caught at a place where she could plausibly
    have left the property; I called but didn't see her.  I'm pretty sure he was trying to
    find her, though.

  * apparently I turned my alarm off yesterday.  The extra hour of sleep was good, but...
  * Desti turned up at the front door, meowing to be let in.  Curio alerted me while I was
    in the kitchen trying to diagnose the non-functioning hot-water tap.  Which wasn't
    functioning because it was plugged into the garbage disposal (switched) outlet.

  * unplugged the disposal and turned on the hot-water tap.  It works.
  & determined that it would be difficult to move the dishwasher to access its wall
    socket.  So the only feasible long-term solution will be to rewire the socket under
    the sink.  Not a job I want to tackle myself, thanks!

  @ Boggle! - I’ve been getting a lot of these lately, and I guess I just want you all to
    know what I think when I read them.  
  * buy: garbage compactor Trash Krusher manual compactor -- $159.  The next cheapest is
    just shy of $700, and isn't portable.
  * Targus wants $10 + $5 shipping for a micro-USB tip.  For that price I can buy three
    cables and charge my gadgets from my laptop.  The box says "Power more devices with
    free tips from Targus", but I didn't see any on their website.  And their registration
    doesn't work with Chrome, probably due to PrvacyFix since I didn't get any popups with
    Firefox.  :P  Gave them a negative review on Amazon.

  * verified that, as expected, N's computer has no trouble with 802-11G.  :P
  * 15min:  set up port forwarding for ssh to nova.
