I actually did some yardwork this week. I hate yardwork. Especially since a lot of it involves bending over, which is bad for my back. But I do it when I have to. Or when it involves gadgetry, like hose quick-connects.

I'd ordered some quick-connects from Amazon to supplement the ones I got at Home Despot on Sunday; quite predictably they disappeared when our housekeeper tidied up the Rainbow Room. I searched for quite a while. They finally turned up in the first place I'd thought to look: in their own box, hiding under the invoice. *facepalm*

Speaking of quick-connects, I recommend brass. The plastic ones I bought last year didn't make it through the winter. Admittedly, this was because I let water freeze in the hoses -- not something I had to deal with in San Jose. But still.

Naomi and I finally got ourselves into the hot tub, for a good soak and good conversation.

A couple of bad moments, mostly thinking about finances -- I use the "trainwreck" tag for a reason. I'm usually able to get past them quickly, and that probably isn't entirely a good thing. It would be better if they were an incentive to get things done rather than causing paralysis. Grumph.

& Christened the hot tub with Naomi (her idea) Good conversation.
  * got some weeding and watering done. Started replacing plastic hose quick-connects
with brass; the plastic stuff didn't weather well. Probably would have been ok if I
hadn't left water to freeze in the hoses -- not something I usually had to deal with
    in San Jose.
  * Got 2 hoppers' worth of grass seeds on the lawn before it rained.

" [The fact that gluten is not the significant factor for IBS patients who are
sensitive to wheat] is a significant finding, but to claim that it proves that
non-celiac gluten sensitivity doesn’t exist is both inaccurate and
irresponsible. It’s a great way to get clicks and generate attention, but it’s an
extreme distortion of what the study actually found. "

! a couple of bad moments emotionally. I suck at paperwork. My social security check
*still* hasn't posted. Sometimes I just want to crawl into a corner and hide. Just
moments -- mostly I'm "ok" whatever that means.

& I'm going to try using the laptop table in the Rainbow Room for a while.

  * Some gardening -- weeding and watering. I'm not fond of it, but it needed doing.
Colleen joined me after a while, and Emmy later still -- I went back inside when Emmy
    came out.
  * Finally got the functional tests I've been working on for the last couple of days to
work. Turned up a couple of actual bugs, but mostly it was bugs in the tests I was
fighting. Probably because I put more thought into the code, and banged the heck out
of the really tricky part with unit tests. This is a project that I'd seriously
underestimated at work, partly due to feature creep.
