The week's notable events were Mother's Day (including an expedition to the Burke Museum with the Younger Daughter), and Rika's house concert on Thursday. The latter was very thinly attended, but we had fun anyway. We have seating for 25-30 people. I found a couple of folding camp chairs on sale at Walgreen's for $10; used one last night for a couple of songs.

I turned up several long-missing items in the course of re-arranging furniture and looking for other missing items (which of course were nowhere to be found -- there may be a conservation law in effect here). Emmy put the Great Room into concert configuration and back; she's kind of unobtrusively amazing.

In the software area, I now have a workable 2-monitor configuration using x2x(1) between nova (the "server", running Debian Jessie) and trantor (the "desktop", running Ubuntu Trusty Taur). It's a very usable setup, if slightly odd-looking.

I'm back with my own group at work, though still working on some of the stuff I've been on loan to. I'm not really happy there, but it's a job.

ETA: and I somehow managed to post this a day early. :P

0510Su Mother's Day
  * up 6:30; W=210.2; Shower, laundry, dishes
  * installed chromium on nova; found that moving a window on xfce was super slow.
    Installed lxde. Nice. Now editing to.do on nova's display. ^Y on emacs can't access
    the cut buffer on the other display, but the middle mouse button works fine so I'm
    not going to worry about it.
  @ x2x(1): X to X connection
  : LXDE doesn't seem to have a configuration option for mouse focus/autoraise, but since
    pretty much all I'm doing on nova is editing to.do, that isn't a problem. Eventually
    I'll probably switch back to gnome flashback. It also seems to share the slow
    window-moving problem.  Weird.
  : back on gnome, nautilus isn't showing the desktop. -Possibly from Xdefaults.-
    It is dconf-editor under /org/gnome/desktop/background as show-desktop-icons
  * Burke Museum - Mother's Day expedition
  $ 70 M Burke Museum memberships for me + Colleen ($40 dual senior), Emmy ($30 student)
  * Stopped at Walgreens on the way home. Bought a pair of $10 folding chairs.
  * 3:30ish called Mom.
  ~ 3:30 -> closer to 5:30 - Chaos and Rabbit coming for dinner/MD.
  * Watched Cats in the Rainbow Room with Colleen, Rika, and N's kids.
  * Glenn made drunken chicken for dinner.
  * 15min: some puttering in the Great Room. Hauled up a floor lamp from downstairs,
    moved an end table, and tracked down the guitar stand/stool, which had been lurking in
    the massage studio. More things in the studio and cubhouse need to be taken out and
    dealt with.

  : The remaining stuff in the studio seems to have been taken out while I was at work.
  % having a great deal of trouble lately getting off my arse and doing things.
    Had a couple-minute slowdown this afternoon; that hasn't happened recently.
  & While looking for a CD of wedding recordings and a box of catfood, both of which
    appear to have been housekept, I turned up the Lenovo netbook and the folder with
    Curio and Desti's adoption papers (both in the coffeetable), and the missing end table
    (in the cubhouse). So not entirely a waste, but...

  @ Wheelin' got a comment reference on FB in response to
    Disability is social: Is someone else's medical condition your business?
  * WFH
  * 10:30 Colleen UNW - she'll be getting a slightly bigger catheter in two weeks, which
    should reduce blockages.
  : Curio came and sat in my lap for a while. Nice
  % sleepy

0513We
  * up 6:30; W=208.8;
  : Jesse doesn't seem to have the latest printer drivers -- doesn't have the Samsung.
    Also, it doesn't seem to be able to talk to the printers on Trantor. This is
    especially odd because it's a more recent version of CUPS. But even downloading
    drivers from openprinting.org doesn't make them show up. CUPS is weird.

0514Th
  * up 5:50; W=208.0; laundry
  * Now back in (the building my group is in) Ruby full time.
  * 8pm Rika's house concert -- only 2 outside attendees, but a good show. We had seating
    for 15 or so.
  * set up household calendar on Google

0515Fr
  * up 6:40; W=207.4; laundry, dishes
  : YD has put the Great Room back together after the concert. We will probably make some
    changes from that, but she's pretty awesome.
  & some singing for Rika - Rocket Rider's Prayer, Wheelin', QV, and October Country.
