Silicon concert
2004-09-06 09:23 amThe concert was merely OK -- lots of flubs, especially at the beginning.
Waltzing With Bears -- Dr. Seuss; in honor of his 100th birthday.
The Owl and the Pussycat -- Edward Lear/traditional
Jabberwocky -- Lewis Carroll/trad (talking blues)
I Am the Walrus --
vixyish/Fish
Desolation --- Oh, No!
Cicero in the Twenty First Century
High Barratry
The Mushroom Song
Keep the Dream Alive
The World Inside the Crystal
Vampire Mega-Byte
Ship of Stone -- Don Simpson
I got totally lost in the first verse of "The Owl and the Pussycat", and blew the ending of "Keep the Dream Alive", at which point I pulled a couple of songs that I would have had to do by memory -- not that I would have had time for them anyway. I'm not sure whether the main problem was lack of practice (I normally go up to the room for a quick runthrough, but we didn't have a room at this one), heckling fromthe audience
chaoswolf, or the fact that there wasn't quite enough light onstage.
Recording details: Just before going to the con I managed to cobble together a recording rig consisting of my Powerbook from work, the latest copy of Audacity for Mac, a Griffin iMic, and my ancient Radio Shack stereo mic all tied together with some Radio Shack adapters. If I'd brought a few more adapters and cables I could have tied into the soundboard, but I didn't know there'd be one and was in something of a rush.
It worked, barely. We probably got three or four useable-for-the-web tracks out of it, and it will give
chaoswolf some practice editing. Edit after hearing it: the results are so close to the noise floor that it's practically unlistenable. It would be possible to post a few cuts, but maybe not worthwhile. We'll see whether a hiss filter will help.
