2018-05-20 04:32 pmN and the kids are moving at the end of this week. I'm stressed.
I've been doing a lot of reading, mostly about Elm, which is a pure functional language that compiles into Javascript. I appear to have decided to implement a couple of apps in it -- I'll blog about my progress, if I don't get too engrossed in actually doing it. I've spent most of Friday, yesterday, and today programming, but have very little to show for it yet.
Much of this was triggered by a take-home programming challenge that was the next step in applying for a job at NoRedInk.com, which does all their front-end work in Elm. I failed miserably, realized that I needed to do a substantial amount of learning, and started working on my apps.
You'll find lots of reference material, mostly on Elm and Javascript, in the notes.

Date: 2018-05-21 10:04 am (UTC)... You've probably already gotten it, but I suppose I should explain for onlookers. The language has no runtime exceptions. Runtime exceptions are usually handled by a try/catch mechanism. Therefore in Elm, there is no try.

Date: 2018-05-21 03:12 pm (UTC)There are things that take the place of exceptions, but you have to handle them explicitly.
